Teachers across the nation anxiously gather this New Year's to watch the pendulum swing.
Each year as the calendars turn, teachers clear their bingo cards and countdown to this year's newest bestest practices ever. What new words and trends will be revealed?
First year teacher Silas Q wasn’t sure why they were celebrating.
“I don’t understand the pendulum. Best practices have always been best practices. If they change, were they worst practices? If the pendulum always swings, who do we believe?”
Don’t ask too many questions there, Silas. Just obey.
Bindy P. predicts project-based learning will get rebranded.
“I’ve got $50 on project-based learning being rebranded. Let’s see, we’ve had inquiry learning, problem-based learning, discovery learning, and so on. Maybe doing-based learning. Has that been used yet?”
Grumpy Gus gave his usual sour note.
"If I hear ‘building relationships’ one more time, I'm going to puke. Why do we only hold teachers responsible? Why not students? Why not shame those who passed bad policy?" he fumed.
"And look, kids will point blank say their parents don't care and then sleep in my class. What can I do? Why do teachers keep getting punished when parents directly refuse responsibility?"
What a sourpuss! Let's go back to Bindy.
"I grew up with open wall classrooms in the nineties. (My school was built in the seventies.) I wonder if the builders will have a say again soon? Every fad means dollars lit on fire."
For 2024, if you guessed AI, fidelity, multi-tiered support system, and skibidi toilet Ohio rizz, give yourself a jeans pass!
Just pay your school five dollars first.
