๐ฐ 4th Grade Teacher Receives Record 34 Mugs for Christmas
It's snowing mugs from one local teacher.
Local 4th grade teacher Bethany E., 42, received a record breaking 34 mugs for Christmas.
"I can't believe it," she said, building a mug tower on her desk, trying to process the generosity. "There are just so many mugs."
According to school sources, the previous record was 28 mugs in 1998.
How does breaking the mug record make her feel?
"I'm just so humbled," she said, blushing. "I guess you could say I've been... mugged."
When asked how she received that many mugs, she chuckled.
"I'm not sure how I received 34 mugs. I only have 26 students."
On our visit, Bethany couldn't figure out how to lug the mugs across her classroom rug. What will she do with them we asked?
She just shrugged.
"I haven't figured that out yet. I don't drink coffee. Maybe I'll add them to my mug closet?"
Most teachers have mug closets at home, she explained. (Except for high school teachers, who never receive student Christmas gifts.)
In many states, the Rule of 85 states that collecting 85 mugs makes you a veteran teacher. Then again, considering teacher turnover, teaching for longer than a year with an emergency license has the same impact or something.
Of all the mugs, The Honest School Times asked, which stands out as her favorite?
"My favorite mug says Best Teacher Ever. You don't hand those out lightly. Of all the teachers on the planet, I can't believe I'm the best ever."
She added that she hopes these mugs help her evaluation.
